Hayward HeatPro heat pump -
HP21002 - 116 btu $3295

With its unique ArmourCoil Protected Heat Exchanger, The HeatPro heat pump heats pool water more efficiently for a fraction of the cost of gas. The HeatPro heat exchanger completely heats all the water without allowing corrosive water to touch metal anywhere within the heat pump. HeatPro's Armor-Coil-protected heat exchanger allows the water passing through the system to be heated and retuned to the pool. The ArmorCoil heat exchanger is protected with an exclusive coating that isolates the metal from damaging chemically treated pool water preventing corrosion and scaling and providing a longer life for your heat pump.

What size heater do I need?
The heater size should be based on how warm you want the pool or spa and how fast you want the pool to warm up. If you plan to keep the pool warm a smaller heater will work. The most economical use is to over size the heater and quickly warm up the pool before you are ready to use it.
Sizing formula example
1 - determine what temperature you want for the water ( 78 for pools - 100 for spas) 78 - desired water temp
2 - subtract the average air temperature for the period you will use the heater 58 - average spring and fall temp
3 - equals the desired temperature rise 20 - temp rise needed
4 - use the chart to match the needed rise with the degree per hour rise in temperature for the heater size

This chart shows the total degree rise expected

We recommend the use of a solar blanket with all heaters. A solar blanket will hold the heat in the water especially at night. Stopping the pool water circulation at night will also minimize heat loss. We suggest a freeze protector pool timer in area subject to freezing temperatures.
