Climate Shield covers are made of vinyl with a non-woven lining that wicks away moisture, which helps keep condensation off the unit and its controls. There are two versions, each one size fits all for its type of equipment: the heater Climate Shield cover and a larger heat pump cover that replaces part NE9195. Each one shields the unit from snow, ice, UV rays, and debris while it is not running.

Winter Covers for Solar Reels

A solar cover reel makes it easy to roll a solar pool cover off the pool before swimming and back on afterward. When the season ends, a blanket left rolled on its reel stays exposed to sun, snow, and debris until spring. A solar reel winter cover goes over the reel with the blanket still on it, so the whole assembly stays covered through the off-season and is ready to use again when the pool opens.

Closing Season Protection Beyond the Equipment Pad

Covering the heater and solar reel is one part of closing a pool, and the rest of the system needs protection too. The pool itself needs a cover, such as an inground winter pool cover or a pool safety cover, and a cover pump keeps standing water off a solid cover. When should a heater or heat pump cover go on?

Put the cover on once the heater or heat pump is shut down for the season, or during long stretches when it will sit idle, including summer weeks when a cover keeps UV rays and debris off the unit. Always take the cover off before running the unit again. Some heater manufacturers advise against covering their units, so check your owner's manual before using any cover, and follow the manual if it says otherwise.

Each Climate Shield cover is one size fits all for its type of equipment, with one version for heaters and a larger one for heat pumps. Cinch drawstrings, elastic and hook-and-loop seams, and adjustment straps let you snug the cover to the unit, and the hook-and-loop fasteners close around existing plumbing, so nothing has to be disconnected. Which solar reel winter cover do I need?

Choose the cover that matches your reel: one fits an 18 ft. solar reel and the other fits a 20 ft. reel, each with the blanket rolled on.
